Good-looking, good-feeling and good quality, the Fiesta van is the UK's best-selling small car-derived van – and it deserves to be. It's fun, frugal, capable and comfortable, making it ideal for driving around the city.
The Fiesta van provides just under a cubic metre of load space, separated from the cab by a steel bulkhead and protected by a hardwearing rubber floor mat and material trim on the walls. It can carry loads of up to 511kg (depending on the version) in its 1.3m x 1.3m x 92cm bay, and there are four load rings to secure your cargo, plus a high, wide opening to make loading easy.
Alloy wheels, a chrome exhaust and a rear spoiler give the latest Fiesta van a stylish, sporty look; inside, the cabin not only feels good quality, it feels like you're in an ordinary Fiesta, with a neat layout, clear instrument dials and comfortable seats. Both the driver's seat and the steering column adjust widely for reach and height, so it's easy to find a comfortable driving position. All models get a four-speaker DAB radio and CD player with an eight-inch touchscreen, GPS, Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity, which is easy to use on the move thanks to steering wheel-mounted controls.
On the road, the Fiesta combines a comfortable ride with lovely handling and easy manoeuvrability. The van's quiet refinement makes it a pleasure to take on the motorway, and round town it's particularly skilled, with good visibility, a tight 10-metre turning circle and light steering which makes parking easy. The newest vans have a choice of two engines: a 123bhp 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol delivering up to 58.9mpg, and a 1.5-litre 118bhp Duratorq TDCi delivering up to 67.3mpg. Both come with a six-speed manual gearbox and stop-start technology to increase efficiency.
Safety features are legion: all models get front and rear fog lights, lane keep assist (which warns you if you're drifting out of your lane) a speed limiter, and tyre pressure monitoring. Other standard equipment includes automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a spare wheel and, for security, an alarm and lockable wheel nuts.
